What were we doing at Fashion Week?
October 9, 2017 In Fashion Leisure Portraits No Comment

Clients:  Hey, Dell River Imagery…. we thought you were Children and Family Portrait photographers… what in the world were you doing at Fashion Week?

DRI:  You are correct, dear Clients, we specialize in family and children portraits.  That being said, we want our images to be the most they can be… creative, innovative, meaningful, fun!

Clients:  That’s nice… but we don’t see the connection.

DRI:  Chances are, our family poses are not going to be on runways… (but never say “never…”).  On the other hand, by watching professional models, we learn new poses that CAN be incorporated into our work.  We also learn to better “pose” the clothing to make the client look the most beautiful!

Here are some samples from the latest Fashion Week shoot:

Portraits for Hurricane Relief
September 8, 2017 In Uncategorized No Comment

I’ve already donated $$$ to Houston recovery… I want to do so much more… I can’t do it alone.  Beto and I decided to use our business as a way to generate funds for Hurricane relief.  We’ve cut our portrait session fee in 1/2, to $150.   After the shoot, we will donate $300 in the clients’ name to hurricane relief… Houston, SXM, Florida… wherever is needed.  For more info, call Nancy at 347-439-9349.

Para info en español, llama a Beto 347-673-3008.

Portraits for Hurricane Relief
September 7, 2017 In Uncategorized No Comment

I couldn’t sleep last night.  (Anyone who knows me, knows that something MAJOR must have been going on!)  I can’t get my mind off of the hurricanes… I thought Harvey was the worst disaster I had ever seen, and immediately sent a donation to help the victims.

We’re nowhere near finished cleaning up that mess, and Irma comes to destroy the Caribbean Islands I love so much!  The people of St. Martin, Anguilla, and Saba have brought me so much joy.. I have to be there for them in some way now.

So here’s what we’re going to do:

Our portrait creation (session) fee is $300.  I’m going to cut the session fee in half — & charge clients $150.  After the shoot, the full $300 will be donated, by us, to hurricane disaster relief in the name of the client.

This way, you can give to the hurricane victims, while also giving yourself memorable artwork for your home.

The portrait could be to redecorate your home, and for upcoming holiday cards. The subject?  Whoever or whatever is important to you — yourself, your family, your kids, your pets…   We will gladly come to you, NYC tri-state area.  (We shoot in SW Florida, too, but that’s on hold…)

Let’s do this now.  Book by Friday, September 29 for this opportunity!

Looking forward,

Nancy

p.s.  to participate in this relief effort, you only have to reserve a consultation before Sept. 29.  The appointment can be later.

Being Prepared
September 6, 2017 In Uncategorized No Comment

I really am trying to get through my normal work day… I’m editing images, framing orders, etc… but I can’t stop thinking about Irma and all the devastation.  I have been lucky enough to spend time in the Caribbean… my heart goes out to friends we’ve made there…

On another note, I got an email from “FlyLady,” who is someone who helps me stay organized. (FlyLady.net) I thought it was so interesting that in putting together her list of what’s important to save, “Pictures” was number 3, only after “people” and “pets.”

If pictures are truly the most important physical possession a person can have, I am so blessed to be able to serve people as a portrait photographer.

FROM FLYLADY:
Dear Friends,
Here we are again with another huge storm threatening millions of people in the Caribbean, South Florida, and other areas. Hurricane Irma reminds me of Hurricane Andrew from 1992. It is already a category 5 storm. Andrew destroyed parts of southern Florida. My father died on his way to help people who were impacted by Hurricane Andrew. It is hard to believe that he has been gone for twenty-five years.

This morning I was watching the news and people are being evacuation in Oregon because of forest fires. One person being interviewed said that they were used to this sort of thing. They had their “Go Bag” ready and they could leave at a moment’s notice.

We never know when we could be affected by fire, flood, train crash, explosions of chemical plants, or other disaster. People in Houston were not expecting 50-60 inches of rain. The eye of that storm hit 200 miles away from them. I did my best to warn my FlyBabies of the impending disaster in Houston and Louisiana. No one could believe the forecast. Please be aware of what is happening with this storm. Be ready with your “Go Bag”!

Let’s think about what goes in your “Go Bag”.  The Red Cross has a great pagewith the essentials for your “Go Bag”. There are two types of emergencies; Get the heck out of Dodge or Hunker Down.

I keep my list in my Control Journal which is in my office in a bag. My important papers are in this my office in a bag too. I also have a back pack in my car with essentials. We have a shelf in the basement that is for our Hunker Down Emergency. On this shelf we have tarps to repair a damaged roof, water to drink, crank radio, duct tape, and food.

Here is a link to my list. FlyLady’s 11 Points of Preparedness. Here are some things to think about. Full list is above.
  1. People
  2. Pets
  3. Pictures
  4. Papers
  5. Prescriptions
  6. Purses and Petrol(fuel)
  7. Proper clothing
  8. Planner, Calendar, Control Journal
  9. Personal Protection; Feminine
  10. Phones, Radios, and Fuel
  11. Patience
Start pulling these items together even if you are not in harm’s way! We never know when will will be called upon to “Get the Heck out of Dodge” or “Hunker Down”! Be prepared for what ever comes your way! You will be calm as a cucumber when you are ready!

Celebrate your own kind of BEAUTIFUL
July 20, 2016 In Portraits Product Photography No Comment

When I think about my career… I can’t really believe how lucky I am to be looking for (and finding!) beauty in everyone.  I’ve always tried to be a positive thinker, and look for the good in others.  I guess it is a natural progression for me to focus my photography career on celebrating beauty.  If you’ve read the “Legend of the Dell River,” we can tell you that no, we don’t actually take clients on a trek through a rain forest…. we talk to people to get a sense of who they really are.  That way, the client becomes comfortable enough to celebrate his or her own beauty!  There’s no “one size fits all” definition of beauty, and I love that!

You can get anything you want… well, we don’t know about that… but anything that you do order in this meatless, vegetable paradise will delight your palate and fill your stomach!  Perfectly cooked fish, cheesy pasta, custom-made pizza, made to order hot-melty chocolate cake… What are you waiting for, Brooklyn residents?   Alice’s Restaurant is on Avenue U, a few blocks west of Ocean Parkway.

Wigs!
May 31, 2016 In Product Photography No Comment

What is more luxurious than a custom-made wig? We got to see not only the finished products, but Claire Accuhair staff showed us a bit of the behind-the-scenes process, too.  The wigs are truly custom-made (according to the size of your head and hair line). They are unequaled by other brands when it comes to natural appearance.  Claire Accuhair sells wigs for fashion, for modesty, and for those needing to cover hair loss. Now tell us honestly… do these women look like they’re wearing wigs??  No one else does hairlines like that!
