Behind the Scenes

Each of the scenes of the book was intended to look believable at a first glance.  In fact, each scene is made up of many small elements, many of which would NEVER really go together in real life.  Below, is the opening village scene in the book, with an explanation of where the various elements came from.  Can you identify each one?
